Julen Lopetegui has expressed believe in his ability to change things at Real Madrid after a dismal showing against Barcelona.
Real Madrid were mauled 5-1 at the Camp Nou with calls for the Spaniard to be sacked intensifying.
But the former Spain boss has requested for more time to return the club back to their best form.
Lopetegui says he still has the support of the players and together they will transform the fortunes of the club.
He expressed sadness at the result but remained optimistic.
“I feel sad at the moment, but with full strength to remain in charge of this group.
“This is a tough blow, but I am strong enough to know everything can be turned around. There is a long way to go, and I have a lot of faith in this group of players.”
“We all know how the world of football works, and the final responsibility lies with the coach. I am not stupid,” Lopetegui added.
“But here we win together, and lose together. But I still believe we are in an [early] stage of the season, and Madrid this year will celebrate.”
Reports are that Florentino Perez has met with former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte to discuss a possible takeover.
If Lopetegui is sacked, it would be the second time he’s lost his job in four months. The 52-year-old was dismissed by Spain days before the World Cup for agreeing a deal secretly with Madrid.
